On Friday, Zamoskvorechye District Court sentenced Alexey Ulyukaev, ex-Minister of Economic Development to 8 years of high security imprisonment and a fine of 130 mln rubles. He was punished for a large bribe, two million dollars.

The convict’s lawyers promised to file an appeal in the near future. After the verdict was announced, Ulyukaev was taken into custody right in the courtroom and sent to a confinement cell in handcuffs.

 

Alexey Ulyukaev is the most high-ranking official convicted of bribery in the modern Russian history.
