An incident in the Kursk Region on the border with Ukraine. A border guard was killed there during a night shootout with bandits. The K9 unit member asked the armed strangers to show their documents. One of the suspects was caught. The second one was killed during detention. Who were the criminals? My colleague Alexander Revunov reporting from the scene.

The border with Ukraine is 300 meters away. There are fields, farms, and empty farm buildings. During the planned rounds of the area, the border guards came across strangers near this shed. They asked to show their documents. But instead of their passports, they took out their weapons.

Later, it turned out that the criminals were preparing to cross the border with Ukraine, carrying a large arsenal of pistols and grenades. A crater and blood on the grass indicate the exact place of the combat. Apparently, most of the fragments went to the ground. There are no bullet holes on the wall either.

The battle was short. This is confirmed by local residents. They heard a loud clap and several single shots: «We are closed over there, we don’t hear well there, but we heard it one time. We hid and locked all the locks. It was scary, of course. And then it was scary to go home».

Later, it became clear that the ordnance detonated in the hands of one of the criminals. Obviously, surrendering was not part of his plans. But his accomplice was taken alive. Though the border guards suffered losses.

Sergei Prozorov, Border Control, FSB of Russia in the Kursk Region: "An employee of the border guard agency received fatal gunshot wounds".

The cordon around the house has now been removed. Today, the neighbors didn’t see the owner of these buildings. Perhaps, he’s being checked for involvement in the events now. The investigators are now working with the detainee.

There is a version that the criminals were going to get to Syria through Ukraine in order to join the militants of the ISIS terrorist organization, which is banned in Russia.

The Investigative Committee of the Kursk Region initiated criminal cases under Articles 222 and 317 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
