Sakhalin on the Far East is Recovering after the Japanese Super Storm

The power supply in all disconnected villages has been restored. The ferry line is back to its normal operation. Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk is being cleaned from the fallen trees and re-bars. People pump out water from their houses.
In just half a day the city received the equivalent of one month's rainfall. The wind was so strong that it was blowing roofs off the buildings, tearing apart children's playgrounds and bending lampposts. Aleksei Sheremetyev explores the aftermath of the devastating storm.
Tatyana Razuvaeva would happily forget last night as a nightmare, but the ruined wallpapers, ceiling and nerves are making it difficult. A resident of a house on Komsomolskaya street has experienced the impact of the Talim storm first-hand.
The roof which had been under construction succumbed to the wrath of nature. The same picture can be seen in elite and social buildings of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk where the roofing seemed to be in good state. Here I have some remaining water. So I would just shove this bucket in there and run back and forth with this bucket all night long. Down here I had a whole sea of water.
A house on Pogranichnaya street also had it bad. The wind gusts tore off a balcony, throwing all of its contents on the street. The streets of the administrative center sunk into chaos. Komsomolskaya street took the biggest hit, having lost temporarily its street signs.
Children's playgrounds have received new structures. This tree, for example, has destroyed a bench, but for local kids it became a piece of sporting equipment. On Gorky street, Talim has knocked over a cascade planter and bent lampposts near the Cathedral of the Nativity. The city started to eliminate the damages caused by the storm at night, as soon as the wind subsided.
On Gorky street, leaves and debris had to be taken out of the storm drain which also receives the Bolnichny stream. This allowed the water to flow underground. The experts also checked the situation with the Prigorodny stream. In 24 hours the city received 48 mm of precipitation. It's about half of a month's rainfall. There are broken tree branches in some places on the Pobedy avenue, the one with poplar trees that stretches along the city.
All that has to be cleaned today. Around 2,000 rescuers were put on high alert. The islanders were asked not to leave their houses. In some places gusts of wind were peaking at 38 m/s. The Novikovo village received the biggest rainfall. The Service for Hydrometeorology registered the maximum of rainfall at that place, up to 90 mm in 12 hours. But all the rivers remain in their riverbeds, so there was no registered overflowing or flooding.
The biggest damage was suffered by the power supply system of the island. Power outages took place in Anivsky, Kholmsky and Dolinsky districts. 3,000 people were left without power. Repair works will go late into the evening.
The most difficult situation is in Dolinsky district. Sadly, extreme winds have damaged power towers there. Four of them fell down. The Japanese super storm has moved away from the populated areas of the island region. On Wednesday, Talim is going to hit Kamchatka. Aleksei Sheremetyev, Konstantin Riskin.
