UN Refuses to Recognize Jerusalem as Capital of Israel - US Lobbying Effort Fails

The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on Jerusalem urging countries not to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on Jerusalem urging countries not to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

128 countries including Russia voted in favor of the resolution. Just 8 countries supported the US position.

 

The text of the resolution was almost the same as the one discussed by the Security Council on Monday. No one supported the US decision so Washington vetoed the resolution. I'd like to add that just before the GA meeting US tried to place pressure on countries not depending on the US.

The US threatened to stop supporting the countries that would vote in favor of the resolution.
