Drones, mobile communication devices, and concealed firing positions Russian officers that fought in Syria share their experiences with colleagues. Training was held at the Totskoye proving ground in Povolzhye.

Aleksandr Sitnikov has the details.

This is the very case where one man is a warrior, a reconnoiter, and if needed, a full-blown fighter. This is about the drones being mastered at the Totskoye proving ground in the scope of a full-scale training of the Central Military District. The latest-technology drones supplied to the 2nd guards combined-arms army are capable of more than just track and help eliminate the enemy.

For instance, currently in the air is a machine that can completely block all communication devices, including mobile signal. Evidence to this is a text message that was sent to every training participant within over a 1km radius. The text contains congratulations from the commanders, but had there been combatants in our place, their phones would've been completely blocked, and their screens would show something like: "You're surrounded, surrender now, resistance is useless."

This type of psychological pressure is a new warfare method. What modern fighting should be like is very well known to the new commander of the 2nd guards combined-arms army, Major General Rustam Muradov. In December he was awarded the title Hero of Russia for completing military missions in Syria. He's twice the holder the Order of Courage, and twice — For Merit to the Fatherland, having received his first combat award back in 1996, during the liberation of the village Pervomayskoe in Dagestan. Now he's sharing his priceless combat experience with all the teams and command units of Povolzhye.

Rustam Muradov: "The priceless experience that we obtained during execution of special missions in the Syrian Arab Republic, we must now turn into real-life military training. In real combat situations, it's impossible to manage without means of air intelligence, ground reconnaissance, and without fire engagement".

Training involving over 10K servicemen of the Central Military District and 1,5K units of military machinery is currently being held in facilities of Samarskaya, Saratovskaya, and Penzenskaya Oblasts. The main phase is conducted at the Totskoye proving ground in Orenburzhye. Here, the commanders are exploring new ways of conducting war, including the experience obtained during combat actions in the Syrian Arab Republic.

- Two rounds are to be loaded and ready!

Self-propelled mortars Tulpan, Msta-S howitzers, tanks, Grad and Uragan rocket launchers, and the servicemen themselves are all undergoing a serious trial, including by Nature, as the grounds are frozen and snow-blown. But where humans can't reach, the targets will be hit by Orlan, Leer-3, and Zastava. The new drones with a whole range of capabilities can remain in the air for over 10 hours, all the while undetected.

Oleg Botyagov, Commander, Drone Service: "The data goes straight to the command post, or directly to the reconnaissance commander. This allows for direct interaction and prompt command execution, reduces the time between repeated fire attacks".

Movement along the battlefield, masking of firing positions, practice of driving and firing — this training isn't easy. Here, the science of warfare is being modernized hands-on. Modern war experience shows that there will be no more large-scale battles or bayonet assaults, More and more, the opponent operates in small groups, inflicting localized strikes, and our troops are ready to give a worthy response.
