Old Friendship Never Dies - President of Argentina Thanks Putin For Help in Missing Sub Search

Today, President of Argentina Mauricio Macri thanked Vladimir Putin for his help in the search for the missing Argentine submarine San Juan. The meeting of the two leaders took place in the Kremlin. Cooperation in all its manifestations is the subject of negotiations. Russia is ready to sell rocket engines to Argentina, build nuclear power plants and railways and buy fruit and vegetables.
Dmitry Petrov is reporting.
Russian-Argentine relations were established more than 130 years ago. Our countries exchanged diplomatic missions in 1885. Now, the mutual trade turnover is growing slowly but steadily, and Moscow and Buenos Aires have similar positions on the main foreign policy agenda issues.
President of the Argentine Republic Mauricio Macri began his first official visit to Russia with the laying of a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Argentina is one of our priority partners in Latin America. This was emphasized by Vladimir Putin when he received Macri in the Kremlin's executive office.
Vladimir Putin: "Our total trade is not so large; however, there was a slight growth, by just over 3 percent, over the ten months of last year. Fortunately, our relations are quite diversified and we have many areas of prospective cooperation. I’m certain we’ll discuss the upcoming major sports event, the World Cup in Russia. We’ll be glad to see you, Mr. President, and numerous football fans from your country".
Russia and Argentina cooperate in a variety of industries, starting from energetics. The fifth part of the electric power is produced on the Russian power equipment. Contracts have been signed and are being fulfilled in transport engineering. By the way, Russian trolleybuses go along the streets of Cordoba and Rosario. The plans include the construction of a port and logistics center in Buenos Aires and a railway line to the gas field in the east of the country. Well, of course, the famous Argentine beef, the best in the world, which after the introduction of European sanctions replaced European beef in our stores.
Today, the presidents of the two countries signed a joint statement on strategic and foreign policy dialogue. Putin separately dwelled on international issues. After all, the world community isn’t only the US and its allies. Argentina is one of the leading countries in South America, a member of the G20.
Vladimir Putin: "Russia will participate in the G20 summit, which will be held in Argentina this year. We share Argentina’s priorities in the G20 and are committed to practical cooperation as we strive to promote them".
The Argentine President thanked Putin for his support and assistance in the search for the sunken San Juan submarine. It's the second meeting of Putin and Macri. But soon, the Presidents may meet again, at the World Cup.
Mauricio Macri: "I’d like to come with my daughter Antonia, who never stops talking about the World Cup. I’d like to attend the final match. Our Lord and Messi will decide if we can win the World Cup".
It's theoretically possible that our national teams meet in the quarter-finals, but to do this the Russian team needs to qualify from the group and win a 1/8 match.
