Meet the Komandor: Kaliningrad Shipyards Create New High Class Commercial Fisher Bound for Kamchatka
The "Komandor" is headed towards the shores of Kamchatka.

The "Komandor" is headed towards the shores of Kamchatka. This is the name of the newest trawler, which was launched in Kaliningrad. Its construction allows keeping the prey fresh for a long time thanks to special pools with sea water. A ship of this class was built in Russia for the first time over the past 20 years.

By tradition, a festive ceremony was held at the shipyard in honor of launching the ship to the water. The "Komandor" is the second trawler-seiner in the new series, which is being built in Kaliningrad for the fishermen of Kamchatka. A unique multifunctional ship is well adapted to fishing in the difficult conditions of the Far East. Representatives of the customer — a fishing collective farm from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky smashed a bottle of champagne for luck on the seiner side.

"Hooray! Bravo!"

A series of three trawlers — the head "Leninets", "Komandor" and "Udarnik", which is still at the stage of formation of the hull — are planned to be released in 2019. This is the first domestic contract in Russia for building such ships in the past 20 years. The seiners are equipped with all the modern fishing gear — trawls, traps, bottom and purse-seine nets. This will allow the fishermen to extract all the bioresources of the Far East — cod, halibut, Japanese pilchard, which are now returning to our fishery zones.

The main feature of the vessel is the ability to store the catch in tanks with chilled seawater. This unique project will allow keeping fish fresh for a long time.

It is expected that the cooperation of the "Yantar" shipyard with Kamchatka fishermen will continue after the delivery of three seiners. They have already announced their intention to order more modern fishing vessels in Kaliningrad.
