Terrorists in Eastern Ghouta are preparing a large-scale provocation, staging a chemical attack against Syrian civilians. This is how Washington justifies planning a missile strike on government quarters in Damascus. This was announced by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia, Valery Gerasimov, today. He emphasized that in case of a threat, Ministry of Defence will take countermeasures.

Artyom Potemin will continue.

According to Russia's General Staff, the situation in Eastern Ghouta remains the most tense in Syria. Terrorists keep shelling residential areas in Damascus daily. As a result 15 civilians have died, and over 130 were injured in the past month. Even more, militants keep civilian hostages on their territories, using them as human shields. Syrians are forbidden from leaving Eastern Ghouta. Islamists brutally suppress all protests and discontent. Human casualties aren't rare in protest disruption in Ghouta. Also, according to Intel, it's become prominent that terrorists are preparing a series of provocations, the results of which will be disseminated worldwide.

Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia: "Upon our agreement with leaders, we have authentic evidence about terrorists staging a chemical attack against civilians on behalf of government troops. For this purpose, crowds of children, women, and the elderly have been brought to several areas of Eastern Ghouta. They will have to pose as victims of a chemical incident. White Helmets activists are also there, along with the production crew with equipment for satellite video transmission".

Meanwhile, there's hard evidence of terrorists preparing chemical attacks. I remind you that recently, a lab was discovered, where chemical weapons were manufactured, in the recently freed town of Aftris. While preparing yet another legend about alleged Syrian government troops' brutality, its authors already know who they plan to blame for these attacks.

Valery Gerasimov: "As a countermeasure, Washington plans to execute a missile strike on Damascus's government quarters. At the same time, there are Russian military advisors, representatives from the Opposition Reconciliation Center, and service members from our military police in Damascus's Syrian MOD objects and headquarters. In the event of threats towards our service members, Russian armed forces will take countermeasures, both on the missiles, and the carriers that launch them".

In spite of the fact that the terrorists constantly attempt to derail the peaceful initiative in Eastern Ghouta, the Russian Reconciliation Center keeps trying to improve the conditions, organizing humanitarian actions and corridors in particular, like when the Red Cross sent humanitarian packages with medical supplies and primary goods. I remind you that the humanitarian corridor in Damascus, also set up by the Russian military, was used to free 145 civilians and 13 representatives of the armed opposition. Even more, Russian officers agreed on the removal of over 1,000 militants from Duma. Among other things, there was a statement from the Strategic Missile Troops at the meeting. It was about preparations for another series of tests of a new missile complex with a heavy intercontinental ballistic missile, Sarmat. This is what Sergey Karakaev said at today's meeting.

"The main goal of these tests is to test the firing system, from a launch pad, and the launch of the first-stage engine. The preparations for the tests are going according to the schedule and are supplied with all the necessities".

The missile is already set up at the Plesetsk Cosmodrome launch site. The combat unit is preparing it for launch. As the General Staff said, the most important thing is to test the first stage. There are no doubts that this will go smoothly and according to plan.
