Five powerful explosions rocked the northeast of the Korean peninsula a few hours before Donald Trump announced the cancellation of the summit with Kim Jong-un. Three tunnels of the Punggye-ri Nuclear Test Site, where Pyongyang conducted all its nuclear tests, were demolished in front of foreign journalists as proof that the DPRK is ready to eliminate nuclear weapons on the Korean peninsula. On the refusal of Trump to conduct a dialogue, Pyongyang responded with a purposely neutral comment at the demonstratively low level of the first deputy foreign minister:

"Our heartfelt aspirations and active efforts aimed at eliminating decades of hostility and mistrust and creating new conditions for improving relations between the DPRK and the US receive unanimous sympathy and support within and outside the country".

South Korean President Moon Jae-in, after the historic summit with Kim Jong-Un, a time when it seemed that peace on the Korean peninsula was within reach, offered to nominate Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. President Jae-in has abstained from making public speeches and only expressed regret through his official representative. The South Koreans themselves have mixed feelings. On the one hand, everything clicked into place but on the other hand, returning to the past doesn't enthuse anyone.

"The dismantling of the test site has nothing to do with denuclearization. It's just a show. I sighed with relief when Trump revealed this deception and canceled the summit"."North Korea released three detainees and liquidated Punggye-ri. But the US tries the DPRK's patience, and I think that's why the summit was canceled. The residents of the Korean peninsula, including myself, are concerned that this may lead to instability again".

Trump canceled the meeting with the same ease as he agreed to meet with Kim Jong-un this spring. Demanding that the DPRK is open and ready to fully observe the conditions set out by the US, Washington itself behaves unpredictably even with respect to its own allies. Neither Seoul nor Tokyo were warned in advance, though Trump met the South Korean president the day before. Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono visited Washington the day before, where he held talks with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Advisor John Bolton.

By the way, at the height of the preparation for the summit in Singapore, when even commemorative coins were already minted, Bolton mentioned the possibility of a "Libyan scenario" for the DPRK if it refuses to transfer all of its nuclear technology to the US.
