Today the Russian Ministry of Defense published the footage of the "Bulava" missile launch from the "Yury Dolgoruky" submarine in the White Sea. And for the first time, the submariners launched a salvo of four ballistic missiles all at once.
Andrey Grigoryev about the results of the launch.
By a long-standing naval tradition, horns send it off on its cruise. The K-535 Yury Dolgorukiy, a fourth-generation ballistic missile submarine, is the pride and joy of the Russian submarine fleet. Just a few seconds until it's completely underwater. Combat alert speeds the rate of descent.
"Set head for 80 degrees, depth 45 meters, speed of 4.5 knots".
As soon as the order is given by the captain, a triple alarm is heard in throughout the quarters, the whole crew, more than 100 officers and sailors, scramble to their battle stations as soon as possible and button down the hatches. The compartments are watched via video display monitors from the conning tower.
"Captain, sir, the submarine compartments are battle-ready, all are present".
The Yury Dolgoruky is the most advanced Russian ballistic missile submarine. It can dive down to 450 meters, reach a speed of 29 knots, and cruise for up to three months. – Set heading to 80 degrees. – Depth 45 meters, trim 0 degrees, depth is steady. the submarine holds the depth. Everything is ready for an on-the-move underwater launch, all in one salvo. "3, 2, 1, 0." "Silo 1 launch confirmed." From the thick clouds of smoke over the sea, one can see the second missile emerges. The third one. And then the fourth one. This happens for the first time. Before, they were only launched in pairs, now there are four distinct white lines in the sky.
"Ballistic missile has been launched".
The Bulava intercontinental ballistic missile was created specifically for the Borei-class submarines. Its range is up to 6,800 miles. The appearance of this missile displays the naval component of the nuclear triad on a whole new level. Each Bulava is delivered on the designated target. Each submarine like Yury Dolgorukiy carries 16 such missiles, and in principle, all can be launched in one salvo.
